1. Backwashing Filters

Backwashing filters work by reversing the flow of fluid through the filter medium to dislodge and flush out trapped particles. This is achieved through a series of steps:

▪Initial Filtration: Fluid flows through the filter medium, trapping contaminants on its surface.

▪Accumulation: As debris accumulates, it forms a cake that restricts flow and reduces efficiency.

▪Backwash Cycle: The direction of flow is reversed, causing fluid to pass through the filter in the opposite direction.

▪Dislodging Debris: The reverse flow dislodges trapped particles from the filter medium.

▪Flushing Out Debris: The dislodged particles are flushed out along with some amount of clean fluid.

2. Mechanical Scraping Filters

Mechanical scraping filters use mechanical blades or brushes to physically scrape away accumulated solids from the filter element's surface. This process typically involves these stages:

▪Filtration Phase: Fluid passes through the filter medium while solid particles are captured on its surface.

▪Build-up Stage: As debris accumulates, it creates a layer that can impede proper filtration.

▪Scraper Activation: A scraper mechanism moves across or rotates against the surface, removing deposited solids mechanically.

▪Solids Disposal or Collection: The scraped-off particles are directed towards a collection point for further disposal.

3. Vibrating Filters: 

Vibrating filters employ vibrations or oscillations to shake loose trapped particulate matter from the filtering elements' surface. Key steps involved in this process include: -Filtration Operation:Fluid flows through fine mesh screens which trap suspended solids on their surfaces -Accumulation Stage:Accumulated solids form a layer known as "cake" that hinders efficient filtration -Vibration :The filtering element is subjected to mechanical vibrations, causing the trapped particles to detach from the surface -Dislodgement and Disposal:The dislodged solids fall off the filter medium and are collected for disposal.
