Filter cartridges are the heart of filter housing. A cartridge is installed inside or outside the filter housing to remove unwanted particles, pollutants, and chemicals from liquids.
There are various different types of filter cartridges, like PP Melt Blown Filter Element, Activated Carbon Filter, Wire Wound Filter Element, Stainless Steel Pleated Filter Cartridge, etc.
Filter cartridges play two roles in filter housing: surface filtration and depth filtration.
1) Surface filtration
Surface filtration refers to the flow of fluid through a layer of material that confines surface particles. Solids/contaminants will not enter through the medium.
E.g: Pleated cartridge filter, cellulose filter
2) Deep filtration
Depth filtration refers to a thicker layer of media/or multiple layers that sets a torturous path for the particles and restricts them from passing through.
E.g: String wound filter, Ceramic filter, and Sintered filters
