A Russian refinery was experiencing unstable wastewater pretreatment caused by high levels of oily sludge and suspended solids in the incoming wastewater. These contaminants were affecting the downstream biological treatment stage and increasing the operating burden on the treatment system.
YUBO supplied a TGF-600G high-capacity basket filter for installation at the front end of the wastewater pipeline. By removing coarse suspended solids and oily sludge before biological treatment, the filtration stage helped stabilize the downstream process and improve overall treatment performance.

Wastewater from refinery operations can contain a mixture of suspended solids, oil-containing sludge and other process residues. For this project, a significant amount of oily sludge and suspended solids was entering the pretreatment system.
The main concern was not simply the presence of these contaminants in the wastewater. The larger issue was their impact on the biological treatment stage downstream.
When excessive solids and sludge passed through the pretreatment section, they could accumulate in the aeration tanks and interfere with normal operation. This made the influent conditions less stable and increased the operating load on the subsequent treatment process.
The customer therefore needed a practical filtration stage capable of removing the larger contaminants before the wastewater reached biological treatment.
YUBO installed a TGF-600G basket filter at the front end of the wastewater pipeline.
The filtration stage was used as a physical separation step before biological treatment. Instead of allowing larger suspended particles and oily sludge to continue downstream, the basket filter intercepted these contaminants during the pretreatment stage.
This arrangement provided a simple way to reduce the solid load entering the biological treatment process without changing the overall wastewater treatment route.
The basket filter was selected for its relatively large filtration area and dirt-holding capacity, making it suitable for wastewater streams containing a considerable amount of suspended material.

For wastewater with a relatively high concentration of coarse suspended contaminants, the filtration equipment needs to handle more than fine particle removal.
A suitable pretreatment filter should also provide:
• Sufficient contaminant-holding capacity
• Stable flow through the filtration stage
• Easy access for basket inspection and cleaning
• Reliable mechanical separation of larger solids
• Compatibility with continuous industrial wastewater operation
The TGF-600G was installed specifically as an upstream protection stage rather than as the final treatment process.
Its role was to remove the heavier solid and sludge load before the wastewater entered the biological section.
Following installation of the YUBO basket filter, the wastewater entering the biological treatment stage became significantly more stable.
The project delivered three main improvements:
• More stable biological-treatment influent
The upstream filtration stage reduced the amount of larger suspended solids and oily sludge reaching the biological process.
• Lower downstream operating load
By removing part of the contaminant load earlier in the treatment line, the filtration stage reduced the burden placed on downstream equipment and processes.
• 30% improvement in overall wastewater treatment efficiency
The upgraded pretreatment arrangement helped improve the overall efficiency of the wastewater treatment system by approximately 30%.
This project demonstrates the value of placing mechanical filtration at the appropriate point in an industrial wastewater treatment process.
For refinery and petrochemical wastewater containing significant suspended solids or sludge, upstream filtration can serve as an important protective step before biological treatment.
Rather than relying on the biological stage to handle the entire contaminant load, a high-capacity basket filter can remove larger solids earlier in the process and help maintain more consistent downstream operating conditions.
YUBO provides basket filters and other industrial filtration equipment for wastewater pretreatment, process water, and refinery applications. Filter configuration and materials can be selected according to the actual operating conditions and filtration requirements of each project.
